Doña Paula - Malbec

90% of these grapes come from our best vineyards in Alluvia, Gualtallary, at 1,350 metres above sea level, and 10% from Los Indios, El Cepillo, at 1,100 metres above sea level. The soils are stony in the first area and sandy loam in the second, and both have a high limestone content. Doña Paula Estate Malbec expresses the unique characteristics of the Uco Valley, a cool-climate terroir, with an average temperature variation of 16 °C in Los Indios and 12.5 °C in Alluvia, and an average annual rainfall of 280 mm in El Cepillo and 300 mm in Gualtallary. The vines produce an average of 8 tonnes per hectare and are trained on trellises, with drip irrigation. At Doña Paula, our vineyards have always been managed according to sustainable farming practices.

Vinification
The grapes are hand-picked in the first week of April. In the winery, they are gently destemmed without breaking the berries. This is followed by cold pre-fermentation maceration to preserve the primary aromas. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures, followed by 15-20 days of post-fermentation maceration. The wine is aged for 12 months in first-, second- and third-use French oak barrels.

The cool-climate aromas of the Awatere Valley leap from the glass, such as lemongrass, jalapeño chilli and fresh herbs. Vineyard: The vineyards range from the coast to the tops of the cliffs and from gravel riverbeds to fertile silty clay loams, providing a ‘fruit salad’ of aromas, flavours and acidity to create this regional blend, a fresh and vibrant wine that truly represents the memorable Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough. Winemaking Details: Fermented in stainless steel tanks at cool temperature. Tasting Notes: Colour: Straw yellow with green reflections Body: Medium Aromas: Lemongrass, jalapeño chilli, fresh herbs, citrus and tropical notes Serving temperature: 7-10°C Pairings: Fish, poultry and veal
